Complementary family of Prius

Complementary family of Prius

IN competitive local hybrid vehicle sales, Toyota Prius lost to Honda Insight. One main reason is the price of Insight is far cheaper than Prius.

Although the technology of these two models are similar but not identical to the Prius is more complex and sophisticated, but it's still not enough to justify why people should buy a Prius.

Insight marketed at a price of about RM97, 000 while the Prius is offered at the point where the price is RM140, 000. Even so, the scenario is changing with the introduction of Toyota's latest hybrid Prius c.

In buying and selling websites have also been spread advertising vehicle model. Best of all, the price is contemplated under RM105, 000. Now, who is not excited?

The letter c in the model is actually an abbreviation for the word city. Prius c designed as an urban-friendly car with economical fuel consumption. The model is complementary to the family of Prius Liftback Prius, Prius v (MPV) and the Prius Plug-in Hybrid.

Prius c is targeted at young buyers who want a stylish car, save fuel and has a sophisticated multimedia system. In addition, the scale size of the compact Prius c is also a major factor for those purchases do not want the extra space. Prius c smaller and lighter than the normal Prius which is 19.1 inches shorter and 246kg lighter.

Recycling of the Toyota hybrid system, or more popular known as the Hybrid Synergy Drive in the Prius platform smaller c is not an easy job. For that, each major component should be redesigned to be lighter, smaller and economically.

Better handling

Package components also need to be made wisely so that passenger comfort is not disturbed due to the hybrid system that demands a lot of space. Components such as engine, transaxle and power control units installed in the vehicle for optimum weight distribution line and the center of gravity low.

Hybrid battery and fuel tank is mounted under the rear seat directly to help the better handling car.

Hybrid Synergy Drive system of integrating the operations of several components such as gasoline engines, electric motors with variable transaxle Continuosly, nickel-metal hydride battery, the power control unit (inverter), DC-DC converter, step-up converter and hybrid control computer.

The hybrid control computer functions as the main control center to ensure the petrol engine and electric power to move smoothly in a variety of driving patterns and the selected mode driver.

C engine 1.5 liter Prius uses the Atkinson cycle to improve efficiency. Engine power is 73 horsepower and power combined to make the total power of 99 horsepower.

Prius c offers a selection of three modes of driving with Normal, Eco and EV. Eco Mode reduces power consumption by controlling the temperature and engine power for energy efficiency. EV mode uses the full power for short distance at low speed.

Prius c body structure using lightweight materials such as high tensile steel to reduce weight and fuel consumption. Application of high tensile steel will enable the strategic shock absorbing car body and spread the impact energy, resulting in a more secure passengers.

Rigidity of the car body and also makes driving more robust operation. External part of the Prius c will show a fun and youthful image to attract the target audience. Aerodynamic characteristics Prius contributed to the low drag coefficient of 0.28.

If true Prius c is brought into the local market, the UMW Toyota should be commended for the car has just launched in several world markets at the end of last year and earlier this year. Local customers will have a good feeling because rarely is a new high-tech car and taken to be launched here.

Praise should also be given for dumping more hybrid cars in the local market. Hopefully the producers of hybrid cars can improve the Malaysian automotive industry after they run away or present yourself to the other ASEAN countries. May we be the major markets environmentally friendly vehicles.

Listen to the words, UMW Toyota Prius c will launch next month. True or not, were just as we anticipated. source
